JOHNNIE EARL was inspired from my mother, Johnnie Earl Ware who taught me and my sisters how to do cut outs from magazines to make paper dolls. My childhood memories started this creative process of mixed medium paintings, ink cutouts drawings and collage of fabric. However, the fabrics carries a more profound significance, as it serves as a tribute to my late grandfather, Earl Ware aka Rag Man. He was the one who nurtured in me a profound appreciation for found objects and imparted the wisdom of repurposing materials. In my collage pieces, I bring together these intertwined influences passed down from my grandfather who has shaped my artistic journey. Through my creative process, I hope to not only honor the legacies of my grandfather but also to inspire others to find beauty and meaning in the discarded and forgotten materials.
